The NCRM Annual Lecture 2025 was given over to one question: what does responsible use of AI look like in research? Rather than a single lecture, the event was a panel of four speakers who gave their perspectives on the topic and then took questions from the audience. This 44-minute video is NCRM's edited selection of highlights from the event, which was held in person and streamed online.
The panel is worth watching because it spans several vantage points. It brings together senior computer scientists who have shaped the UK's AI and digital research landscape, an industry AI researcher, and a sociologist who has written extensively about generative AI in academic life. For researchers deciding how, and whether, to bring AI tools into their own projects, it offers a considered, methods-focused view from the UK's national research-methods training centre instead of the usual vendor pitch.
